What can we do with Lasers in Dentistry. Almost anything we do with the old drills we can now do with the lasers.Dental lasers have come a long way since they first started in dentistry. What is new with the lasers? Well, the actual laser has not changed much it is more what we are doing with them that has changed. We find new applications for our lasers in dentistry every day.
Here at the office we have been working with soft tissue lasers since the office opened. A soft tissue laser has helped us with many patients that would have otherwise had to endure bigger surgeries. The laser is very specific tool. Instead of having to make some big hole in a person's gums to get to an infection we can now make the surgery smaller which helps with their healing time.
Hard Tissue Lasers in dentistry are here to stay. From cleaing out a cavity on a child without anasthesia to taking care or root cavities on an older patient we use less and less shots to take care of routine fillings than we have in years. These lasers will put most teeth to sleep without the dreaded needle! With lasers we can only go so far, some people still need anasthesia but that getting less and less. The feeling I hear from patients is that at worst it was a 2 out of 10 with deeper cavities, Ten years ago I would have givven the patient loads of needles to do things that they might only need one with the laser. It is a wonderfull tool, we still do many of our final cleaing of a tooth with that noisey drill but by that time your tooth is fast asleep with the laser. What a day to have a cavity filled and go home without your face feeling like it is a basketball!
